Labour Party of Kenya (LPK) members and officials from Busia County have thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing former Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba to the Cabinet.
Ababu who served as the Sports Minister during the coalition government was named Chief Administrative Secretary of the Foreign Affairs ministry in changes announced on Friday last week.
Joyce Auki, the party’s women congress president, said the move was not only a honor to the party but also to the Luhya community.
“In the first cabinet, Busia had no slot. But right now, we have this one for the Chief Administrative Secretary,” She said
She said they believe is Ababu’s ability to deliver describing him as a young and experienced leader who has served both in the executive and Parliament.
“We highly appreciate Uhuru and DP William Ruto for honouring the people of Busia and Labour Party of Kenya.”
“We expect more appointments from our region because we are in full support of the Jubilee administration,” Auki said at the weekend.
Asked whether the appointment was on merit or a political reward, she said that Namwamba “is a qualified professional whose skills would immensely contribute to the foreign affairs where he will serve”.
She also urged Governor Sospeter Ojaamong of Busia county and Namwamba to work together to strengthen relations with the national government.
The party’s Busia branch secretary general Joseph Alende said the President was right to create the CAS positions.
The lot said this will enhance service delivery in his administration and help in achieving the president’s Big Four agenda.
