Karen Technical Training Institute student Kennedy Macharia and businessman Richard Kamau have been announced as the winners of Shake and win promotion by opera news.
Awarding brand new cars at Renault dealership in the Simba Corp Aspire Centre, Opera news managing director Edward Ndichu said that the one month promo was meant to relieve Kenyans the world cup hangovers.
He said that with over 10 million downloads, opera news has partnered with Jumia to award more than 4000 users daily with vouchers and free airtime and internet bundles.
Since the introduction of the Shake feature, Opera News has rewarded more than 100 thousand users in Kenya with amazing prizes.
“On average, more than 500 thousand people in the African continent have shaken their phones since the introduction of the feature, “said Edward adding that the competition will continue for the remaining one car.
“We are really excited to see happy winners every day, and we enjoy celebrating this moment with them,” said Jørgen Arnesen, Global Head of Marketing and Distribution at Opera adding “We enjoy so much football at Opera and we wanted to communicate that passion to our users by rewarding them with amazing gifts in an easy way when using our app.”

Kamau, who owns a printing business in Nairobi, mentioned that winning this car gives him a new opportunity to travel around the country with his family.
“I can’t explain the feeling,” said Kamau. “I’m so happy about being the winner of the car. This will be a family car. I have two kids who love the animals, so I’m planning to drive with them and go to Masai Mara on a safari and see the animals.”
