Kenyan artist Kevin Kioko alias Bahati is in tears after being pressured to abandon his Mathare parliamentary campaign in favor of current MP Anthony Oluoch.
Addressing the media today at Nairobi, Bahati termed the action taken as unfair.
After winning the recently concluded party nominations, the artist was given the green light to run for the Mathare constituency on the Jubilee party ticket but later on asked to withdraw his candidacy because the area is zoned for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
ODM and Jubilee have an arrangement to jointly field candidates in Nairobi and other parts of the country.
” I respect my president and Raila Odinga but please give the youth of this country chance. I am also in Azimio and this certificate here in not only Bahati but it represents many other youths, this is a sign of hope.” he said.
Bahati also stated that if he does not appear on the ballot ahead of the August elections, Mathare constituents will be denied the opportunity to vote for their leader.
“Don’t deny me a chance to work/ represent my people. Mathare wants someone who understands their needs.” He added.
