Jubilee MCAs in Nairobi have resolved to rally behind Govenor Mike Sonko who is battling an impeachment motion tabled last week.
The MCAs,both elected and nominated held a meeting on Sunday afternoon in Nairobi, where they made a decision to unanimously oppose the motion tabled by Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok .
Imwatok wants Sonko out over corruption, incompetence and inability to put order at City Hall.
But the Jubilee MCAs, according to Umoja one mca Mark Mugambi ,claim that the issues are already before court and that it should be left to take it’s natural course .
” We cannot crucify the governor on issues he is battling in court, Sonko is going nowhere take it to the bank, ” said MCA Mark.
Former Majority leader Abdi Guyo who had fallen out with the Governor has also affirmed his full support to save Sonko from the looming impeachment motion.
” am with sonko and i can assure you his going nowhere, Will stand with him untill all these come to pass,”Guyo said.
The assemblys majority leader Charles Thuo and Chief whip June Ndegwa have so far requested through the speaker Beatrice Elachi for verification of the purported signatures list to verify its authenticity.
Section of Odm mcas led by Imara Daima lawmaker Kennedy Obuya, who are in support of Govenor Sonko to remain in office affirmed that they will stand with sonko, terming impeachment motion waste of time.
” we can’t support an illegality, will stand with our Nairobi Governor, we wont sign that list,” Obuya said.
The motion is expected to be debated next month .
