Nairobi County Assembly Members will on Thursday hold a special session to discuss the state of the county as well as the conduct of speaker Beatrice Elachi.
The Jubilee and Nasa MCAs held special meetings on Monday and Tuesday respectively and reached consensus to discuss the two ‘weighty matters’ according to an MCA who sought anonymity for fear of victimization.
“ We have agreed to discuss key issues affecting Nairobi residents and the two most important ones is the state of affairs in the county and the conduct of the assembly speaker.
Governor Sonko has recently been put on the spot by Nasa MCAs for what they termed as sham decisions from the Governor. Led by minority chief whip Peter Imwatok(Makongeni) the MCAs have questioned payments made over the ongoing beautification process.
Sonko’s administration has also been on the spot over the Meriland bank account which was linked to the delay in issuance of bursary funds in the capital.
For speaker Beatrice Elachi, her battles with clerk Jacob Ngwele are set to get a notch higher as the legislators prepare to discuss her conduct and commitment to her roles as the speaker of the assembly.
Elachi has been at loggerheads with Ngwele over tender issues at the assembly, with the former set to appear before the court later this month.
But the MCAs, who are also considering an impeachment motion against her, claim that she wants the clerk over alleged failure to secure an ‘irregular’ tender to build the speaker’s residence. She is also being accused of disrespecting the assembly leadership and working as a lone ranger.
Elachi, who served as a nominated senator between 2013 and 2017, has been overheard n a section of the media warning of continued graft at the assembly
