Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has officially joined the Azimio La Umoja movement after joining the Wiper Party.
Sonko had quit the Jubilee party a fortnight ago and his surprise move is set to stir up a huge political debate.
Earlier on,reports were rife that he had met President Uhuru Kenyatta prior to the Kiambu funeral where they all attended.
Sonko is battling his impeachment status to make a comeback to city politics where he still wants to be the Nairobi governor.
The Friday afternoon events could be a major reprieve to his political career that had otherwise been declared dead.
In one of his Facebook post last month, the flamboyant ex-governor noted that he was ready to take on Kenya Chambers of Commerce and Industry president Richard Ngatia who is deemed favourite to clinch the seat.
Sonko has consistently been optimistic that he will make a gigantic return to politics and many will be waiting to see the next move he will take.
At the Wiper headquarters,he was recieved by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other part officials.
It is not yet clear which seat he will run for but sources indicate that both Nairobi and Kwale counties are live on his cards.
Sonko is known for his cunning mobilisation skills and the fact that he is a darling to the youths and people in informal settlements makes him a big catch for the Azimio La Umoja team
