Thika College offers scholarship to needy students

MIPS Institute of Professional Studies Thika, a new entrant in the region and with Branch in Mombasa has offered a full scholarship to 50 needy students to pursue business and artisan courses.

Situated at South Haven, Uhuru Street next to G4S offices, the school offers Diploma, Certificates and Artisan courses to any student with a mean grade from D in certificate and diploma for above.

Speaking during the orientation exercise, the school managing director and the founder Mr. George Maina said the gap in the education sector is alarming and the ministry of education should take charge and expedite its mandate.

He called on the needy students and the parents to reach out to administration as there are few scholarships remaining to grab.

Mr. Maina said his dream in the education sector is to see the realization of quality education to every corner across the Country.

“Education has always been a light to everyone in the country and that why I decided to start MIPS in an effort to close the gap in the education sector while also building a bridge to those students who fail to join University, “he said.

He further said that many parents’ stills hold the old mentality that taking a child to colleges is very expensive a vise now overtaken by event due to a public-private partnership.

He further urged the government to ensure that bursaries allocations only benefit the needy and not the vice verse as it has been witnessed.

“I want to put this to record, at MIPS Institute, every entry I will be sponsoring 50 needy students at a diploma level and then I will be connecting them to the job market, I would like to request well-wishers to follow suit and this will ensure that the education uptake in Kenya will rise which will I return promote a healthy economy,”Maina added.

In 2018, there were 663,820 registered candidates who did the exams out of which 323,113 were girls and 340,707 were boys.

Ministry of education recently released new rules on those seeking to join colleges and Universities.
